Heartland Brewery and Burger located in Times Square in New York City has the cure for what ales you. From the moment you walk into the brew pub, you can feel the “Old School” pub ambiance greet you with a roaring wood fire after trekking through a snowstorm. Large amber stained glass chandeliers hang from the ceiling like kerosene-powered lanterns in days of old. Vintage beer advertisements and collectable memorabilia encompass the walls furthering your time travel journey. Copper accents adorn brick pillars throughout the restaurant completing the experience even before you have gotten a seat at the bar. Oh, and did I mention the beer?
Heartland Brewery and Burger brews many different beers on-site. Among them are several varieties of IPAs, traditional ales, seasonal selections, and one special stout that stands atop all others. The Farmer Jon’s Oatmeal Stout has won three awards at the American Beer Festival, and for good reason. This dark-opaque extra stout looks at first like a pint of Guinness, but what distinguishes it is the head. Unlike most stouts that have an eggshell marshmallow look, Farmer Jon’s Oatmeal Stout has a more velvety silver color that invites you to take a sip and be proud of the mustache you now wear.
Upon reading the beer menu at Heartland Brewery and Burger Burger, and noticing the award winning stout, I decided to look no further. Farmer Jon’s Oatmeal stout is a rich, full-bodied beverage that can be compared to a regular stout mixed with a cup of hot chocolate. Needless to say, this smokey stout and my burger worked with startling efficiency to fill me up past the point of comfort. At 6.5% ABV, this stout without a doubt, is the perfect end to a great meal in an excellent brew pub.
